Guided tour of the Roman houses

Guided tour of the two museum-displayed patrician houses in the Roman city of Baetulo, the Casa dels Dofins and the Casa de l’Heura, offering an insight into how the city’s elites lived at the end of the 1st century BC, having grown wealthy through the production and trade of wine.
Several rooms arranged around the atrium are preserved at the Casa dels Dofins, along with other rooms connected to the peristyle or garden and a work area used for wine production. Also noteworthy are the high-quality mosaics and the remains of original wall paintings.
At the Casa de l’Heura, visitors can see a work area with containers intended for wine and several rooms arranged around an atrium. It also includes some distinctive features, such as the large oecus (summer dining room), with its original tessellated opus signinum floors, and a section of the street (cardo maximus) that separated the two houses. The two video mappings are particularly noteworthy in this second house. The first immerses visitors in the atrium of the domus, while the other explores food in Roman times, from the raw ingredients to the end of the banquet. A third visual projection also reveals the importance of wine production and trade in the ancient city of Baetulo.
Both houses have tactile modules for blind visitors.
