Candlelight: Tribute to Metallica

Barri Gòtic doesn’t usually host string quartets playing “Enter Sandman.” On August 30, a candlelight concert in Barcelona changes that. A string quartet reworks ten Metallica songs into a 60 minute set at the Reial Cercle Artístic de Barcelona.

Expect Enter Sandman, Nothing Else Matters, Master of Puppets, Fade to Black, and Sad But True. Seek & Destroy, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Whiskey in the Jar, The Unforgiven, and One round out the set. The arrangements strip out distortion and drums, then rebuild the songs for strings alone. Nothing Else Matters translates almost effortlessly into this format. Master of Puppets is a harder sell on four string instruments. That gap between original and arrangement is part of what makes the format worth watching.
This isn’t aimed at metal purists looking for a faithful cover set. It isn’t aimed at classical purists either. It sits in between, and it works best if you go in curious rather than skeptical. The series draws a mixed crowd: couples on a date night, metal fans dragging along a partner who’s never heard of Metallica, and people who just want an unusual hour in a beautiful room.
The concert runs an hour with no intermission. Doors open 30 minutes before the 17:00 start. Latecomers do not get in once the music begins, so build in a buffer. Because the room fills by ticket tier, arriving early also means a better seat regardless of which zone you booked.

The venue is the Reial Cercle Artístic de Barcelona, at Carrer dels Arcs, 5, in the Barri Gòtic. It’s a historic cultural institution founded in 1881. Today the Cercle is still active as a home for visual arts, literature, and music, which makes it a fitting stage for a genre mashup like this one. Nearest metro stop: Liceu, on the green L3 line, about five minutes on foot. Wheelchair access is available at the venue.
Narrow, pedestrian-heavy streets define the Gòtic, so allow extra time if you’re arriving during the evening crowds. A GPS pin will get you close, but the last stretch is easier on foot than by taxi.
Tickets and Practical Details
Tickets run in three tiers: Zone C at €36.50, Zone B at €44.50, and Zone A at €48.50. Seating is assigned by tier on arrival. Where you sit depends on what you pay, not on when you show up. Because this event is Fever-exclusive, book through Fever directly rather than searching for a separate box office or the venue’s own site.
The show is instrumental throughout, though any spoken introduction will be in Spanish. Children are welcome from age 8, and anyone under 16 needs an adult with them. There’s no interval and no re-entry once the doors close, so plan your evening around a firm 17:00 start.
Is It Worth the Money
The novelty is real. Hearing Metallica’s heaviest riffs rearranged for strings, by candlelight, inside a 19th century arts institution isn’t something you’ll stumble across on a typical night in the Gòtic. Go in with the right expectations, though. This is a mood piece built around atmosphere and arrangement, not a full symphonic reproduction of the originals. An hour of seated listening is the whole experience.
Reviewers of other Candlelight installments have flagged the seating as tight. It’s not especially comfortable for a full hour, so dress for that and skip anything that needs a soft chair. If you’re already curious about Barcelona’s classical and crossover concert scene, this is a low-commitment way to test it. One hour, one neighbourhood you’re probably visiting anyway, and a set list most people already know by heart. If you want the originals at full volume, skip this one and catch a tribute band instead.
